Regents Assembly’s Response to the Death of George Floyd

The Danger of Incomplete Truth

Without the truth, we cannot detect errors What is truth? There has to be a baseline to understand the truth Our baseline as children of God is that Jesus is the way, the truth and life.

Apostle Paul set a baseline for Timothy in II Timothy 4:1‭-‬4 (NKJV) “I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long-suffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables”

Our relationship with Jesus forms our baseline of the truth. We have the Spirit of God that guides us into all truths according to John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and *He will tell you things to come*.

That majority believes a thing, does that make it the truth?
That something is a norm does not make it the truth.

The truth is what the word says about us Truth from God’s standard is absolute and not relative. God’s yes is yes; His words are yes and amen!

Truth informs our response to situations : …based on the wisdom of God, not the wisdom of the world.1 Cor 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight

Truth is intellectual

Truth is also relational : …when we develop our perspective of truth as our relationship with God grows.

In Luke 10:25‭-‬37 , a lawyer came to Jesus and asked a question based on intellectual truth, Jesus shared a parable that changed his perspective from a relational truth angle.
And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it? ” So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ” And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.” But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denari, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?” And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

We live in a world where there are many things that will make us compromise what the truth is. Distractions that skew the truth…we have to choose to live a life of truth. Submitting to Jesus and believing what the word says as our truth and living by it. We stay ready for the return of our Lord Jesus so we don’t need to get ready.

Jude 1:24‭-‬25
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.
