For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and darkness and tempest, and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore. (For they could not endure what was commanded: “And if so much as a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned or shot with an arrow.” And so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I am exceedingly afraid and trembling.”) But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

God in the OT was so fearsome that the children of Israel could not even get close to Him. His voice was so scary that they wanted only Moses to go hear Him and come back with a report.
That, compared to what we have now, shows what Jesus did.
Jesus is now our Altar…according Hebrews 13:10‭-‬14 NKJV to We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat. For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp. Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate. Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach. For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come.

This is a new altar…one that has set us free. In our freedom, there are things still expected of us
Hebrews 13:15‭-‬16 NKJV say Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices, God is well pleased.

Fruit from our lips suggests there is a tree…our gratitude has to come from the heart.

We are to give thanks to His name. That’s the name we lift up.
Praise and worship is not to make us feel good…it is to praise His Name.

Do Good and Share because in this God is well please

In verse 17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

Submission is a sacrifice. Make it easy for those in positions of authority over you.
Leadership is there to create order. Without order, there will be chaos and that profits nobody.
Jesus has done it all, but we need to do these little things in the freedom we have as the church of the firstborns.
